Welcome to Matt's Library! This is where I write about the books that I read. Entries are in alphabetical order. Newest entry is at the top.

The Shining

Stephen King

I read this book faster than any book I have ever read I think. Trying to make a habbit of reading as a new years resolution so that probably helped. The other thing that helped was that I woke up every day wanting to see what could possibly happen next in this insane story. It's a cliche but this was hard to put down. The chapters are pretty short sometimes so I would be like "alright just one more" and then do that like 3 times. All that said, the hype is real on this one. Probably the best thing I have ever read. It's just an insane journey and by the end I couldn't help tearing up. I was suprised at how tender it ended up being. If you are worried about knowing the story due to the movie don't be cause they are really different. I would love to have read this during a time when nobody knew how it ended. Must have been insane. Anyways, this book is incredible and Stephen King is a nut. Hard to really recommend this one straight up cause it is pretty gnarly but all I can say is that it is truly great. Gonna take a break from King for a bit and read some other things, don't want this to look too much like a fan page.

Carrie

Stephen King

This was such a good book. It really blew me away that this was Stephen Kings first book because the way he writes is so confident. Really just fun to read. Carrie is the first Stephen King book that I have read and holy cow was it a trip. I am a big movie watcher and Carrie is one of my all time favorites so it was really cool to get such a larger slice of the story. It goes without saying that the story is so much more in depth and that makes all of the beats you are familiar with payoff so much more. Outside of the iconic moments the stuff I wasn't aware of really stuck with me. All the backgrounds of characters and all the little moments just makes everything hit so hard and it is incredible. Also the way King references media inside his worlds is just so cool, like newspapers and court cases and such. Loved that. I cannot recommend this book enough and it has officially sent my down the Stephen King rabbit hole.

The Hobbit

J.R.R. Tolkien

Took me a while to read but man was this good. The Hobbit is so much fun and so charming, the way Tolkien writes is so interesting and I am really looking forward to trying to read The Lord of the Rings trilogy soon. Nothing really beats a solid adventure story and this takes the cake. The world is so lived in and as everyone knows the lore runs deep. I was not prepared for how sad the end of this story would make me but I loved that about it. You really just fall in love with the characters and it is awesome. I don't think there is much I can say that hasn't been said a billion times. I mean it's the Hobbit. I wish I would have read this when I was younger. Would have wired my brain in a crazy way I feel like. Anyways, I really liked it.

'Salem's Lot

Stephen King

That is an easy two for two on Stephen King books for me. This dude knows how to write a freaking book that is for sure. 'Salem's Lot, which I suprised to find out had an apostrophe before it because it is short for Jerusalem, was a fantastic book. There was a lot I didn't know about this story as I had never seen any movies or anything. I feel like that can be pretty rare for Stephen King stuff. Not knowing anything while working my way through this story made it so much more terrifying and uncomfortable. 'Salem's lot was definitley pretty scary, I used to never get how books can be scary and always joked about jump scares in books and such, but after this I really get it. The way King tells this story really gets your gears turning. He describes people's fear in such a way that you cannot help but feel it yourself. Really really recommend this one.
